Considering that 99.99% of the images posted on this blog involve stylish silent screen sirens and heaps of Jazz Age fashion, I’m sure a good deal of you are a bit baffled at the recent slew of vintage Green Bay Packers photos I’ve posted.
It’s not just that they won the Super Bowl yesterday — well, that’s a bit of it, and since I work in sports media as my daytime gig, I feel obligated to continue yesterday’s festivities.
However, it’s much more fitting that, out of all NFL teams, the Green Bay Packers are the only franchise to have retained their original team name and location since their creation; similarly, the Packers are the oldest surviving NFL team, dating back to 1919.
Green Bay is the smallest American city with a pro football team and the Packers are the only team not owned by a corporation or singular entity — the Packers are fan-owned.
I don’t know about you — but all this sounds like the true spirit of football to me. It’s nice to see an American icon take the top spot in football yet again.
